Apollo Photo Mosaic
Once Apollo was released I decided to redo my Flash based photo mosaic. Having Apollo available finally gave me the impetuous to add in some of the features I had never gotten around to adding: using your own photos, user set search criteria, and saving the final mosaic. You can download the new Apollo version here. You will also need the Apollo runtime. Enjoy.

Thank you so much for providing this.
I am sure that it will be very helpful for many peoples.

This is pretty darn cool - but it would be nice if the output could be saved as a swf too so that I could put a swf on my page and let users see the images making up the mosaic.

I have updated the build to fix up the loading bug. Should work fine now for both PC and Macs.

I’m a budding graphics designer. I love making my own icons especially when it comes to shopping and wedding sites. I love flash banners made from my own pictures but found out that most merchant sites reject sites with flash. So do you think I will have other uses for this?

Hi,
Is there a plug-in you can download anywhere that allows you to save/export as an swf file? If not, are there any 3rd party converters? I haven't had any luck with either. Besides that though, this is really cool. Thanks for sharing. Does anyone have a thorough breakdown of the differences in the Apollo brand vs. the Air brand? I also use Audition fairly often and was wondering if there was a specific way to incorporate Audition into an Apollo session, rather than having to do the work in the two applications seperately and then import manually. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance to anyone with an answer. Also, any news on when the next upgrade will be and new features to expect? Thanks again for sharing.

I'm not sure if there is a plugin that allows exporting to a swf. I'm not exactly sure what you are wanting to export but swf is an open source format. I know people have created applications that can create swfs from something other than Flash and Flex. I have never seen any AS classes publicly available to allow people to easily do that though.
No news on an update anytime soon. If there are any specific features you would like to see let me know and I may work on it in some free time.

Derrick,
Thanks so much for the reply. I googled for swf apps and came across a few cool ones after reading your comment. As for the specific features, I'm still kind of new to the program in general though, so I could actually still use a thorough tutorial or beginner's guide if you have a link to something like that lying around. I'v been playing around and learning things on my own, but I'm sure there is much left for me to absorb. Thanks as well for the info on the update (or lack thereof at this time). If and when you hear of the next release, I'd be thrilled if you could share it with the rest of us on the blog. Thanks again for the help. I appreciate it greatly. Take care!

What an amazing application. You deserve some serious credit, not just for making it – which I’m sure required exhaustive hours of programming – but for coming up with the idea in the first place. It never would have occurred to me (despite the fact that I stare every day at a large photomosaic of Darth Vader that hangs above my desk), but once I read your explanation it seemed such an obvious idea and an obvious process. I suppose that’s the definition of most great ideas, though: they are so obvious we wonder how we did without them before. I already have plans for putting together some amazing Christmas gifts using this program, and it’s only July. Thanks for the post and the effort.

Thanks for very interesting Article

Apollo Photo Mosaic will create a photo mosaic based on your photos and a Flickr search. Although this is very cool I still can’t understand why it is so exclusive to Flickr.

Hi there,
just tried to ran your AIR app and got the following message from Adobe runtime:
This application could not be installed or launched (AIR file C:\download\adobe-apps\PhotoMosaic\PhotoMosaic.air is invalid: This application requires a version of the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) which is no longer supported. Please contact the application author for an updated version.).
Will you be updating?
Thanks, William

Hey William,
A new build is up. Thanks for the heads up. I guess when Adobe released the latest version of AIR it broke all the apps built with the Alpha version.
